Does your company handle many heavy lifts and repetitive movements? Are you short on available floor space? Let us introduce you to our ‘Wemo Handling’ concept. In this article, you will find answers to questions such as: • Can automation reduce strain injuries? • Do you need to be an engineer to understand and program Wemo’s software? • Can Wemo’s automation solutions be scaled up/down?
Wemo Handling is a concept that delivers automated solutions for efficient internal logistics. At Wemo, we have extensive experience in delivering solutions that streamline material flows and goods handling for our customers. The central product in our material handling solution is our self-developed linear robot xPacker, but the WIPS 4.0 software, which is also developed by us, is a significant contributor to why Wemo Handling is so appreciated by users.

Advantages of Wemo Handling
Filip Nyström is a technical salesperson well-versed in the subject of Wemo Handling. Here is his answer to the question about the main advantages of an automation solution by Wemo:
“Wemo Handling offers a high degree of automation with solutions that eliminate non-ergonomic manual work, such as repetitive and monotonous tasks, and tasks with high loads. By delegating these tasks to automation, sickness absence usually decreases while efficiency increases. With the modular design, it is easy to customise unique Wemo Handling solutions that consider both the customer's needs and the production environment.
We have nearly 40 years of experience in robotics, so we offer long lifespan and high reliability on all our products. An optimised palletising process contributes to lower production costs and increased productivity in the company. The customer can feel secure knowing that integration with existing production lines and ERP systems is easy, as Wemo Handling is essentially a plug-and-play solution that ensures a smooth transition. In addition, we offer comprehensive support and training programmes to ensure that the customer gets the most out of their investment and palletising solution.”
5 reasons to choose Wemo Handling
- Saves floor space as the linear robot works above the workspace
- Predefined pallets and sheets eliminate repetitive tasks and save time
- Extremely flexible and user-friendly software (see section below)
- Employees avoid monotonous movements and high-load tasks
- Complete package with robot, E.O.A.T (End of Arm Tooling), inbound conveyor, pallet station, integrated safety
Jan Bergström: The design engineer behind the Wemo Handling software, an integrated part of WIPS 4.0
WIPS Software loved for its ease of use
Jan Bergström is a design engineer with us at Wemo and the mastermind behind the software for Wemo Handling, an integrated part of WIPS 4.0. This software makes the Wemo Handling concept highly appreciated by our customers. What was Jan’s reasoning when creating the software?
“The goal from the start was to create a feature where palletising patterns can easily be created directly on the robot’s operator panel. It should be clear how to place items, such as the direction labels should face and how and in what order the items should be placed. We wanted to avoid extremely complicated calculations, as these are performance-intensive, and there are many ready-made programs that run on external computers. Instead, we focused on providing basic functions for placing items such as boxes on a pallet.”
Jan explains that another reason for WIPS 4.0’s popularity is that the software is integrated into the robot’s control system. This means that no extra equipment or software is needed. The user-friendliness is high, and saved settings can easily be transferred between different robots. This way, the operator only needs to save the settings once, regardless of which robot the function is used in. Smart!
7 favourites that place the WIPS 4.0 software at the top
You don’t need deep computer knowledge to understand or program the WIPS 4.0 software that controls the communication between xPacker and the operator. These six points are obvious favourites.
- Ability to group objects for more efficient picking
- Quick and intuitive creation of palletising patterns
- Clear display of item and label positions
- Basic functions that are easy to understand
- Integrated into the robot’s control system – no extra equipment needed
- Saved settings can be transferred between robots for efficient use
- Low energy consumption thanks to Eco-mode and vacuum-saving system (ASC)

It’s that easy to program the robot in WIPS 4.0
Wemo xPacker
Wemo xPacker is the name of our innovative material handling robots. The cost-effective robots are flexible and can be used for example for stacking/unstacking boxes to and from pallets. The xPacker unit is equipped with a universal multifunctional vacuum gripper that can handle all types of products or boxes. We offer three standard sizes, but there is the option to customise an xPacker model entirely to your needs. All xPacker robots come with integrated safety guards as standard. The safety guard has easily accessible doors for pallet replacement or inspection.
How Wemo xPacker Works
The robot concept is based on three rigid servo-linear motion axes in the X, Y, and Z directions, and a servo-B rotation axis around the Y-axis (vertical). In this way, various palletising patterns can be achieved within the 3D work area defined by the X, Y, and Z axis strokes.
Through the WIPS 4.0 software, you communicate with the robot and program the robot’s tasks. The user interface is easy to understand, and the software offers generous flexibility. Should the robot place items in plastic or cardboard boxes? Or should it move pre-packaged boxes to a pallet according to a specified pattern? Perhaps it involves moving plastic pipes and placing them in a steel pallet? Your need determines what the robot should be programmed to do – and it’s easy to change if production changes.
