A returning feature! Sub-arm for increased flexibility

When flexibility in automation becomes critical, standard solutions are not always enough. With an updated sub-arm, Wemo’s robots gain new capabilities to handle more complex applications without compromising precision or freedom of movement.

The need for more adaptable automation is increasing as demands for efficiency and production variation continue to grow. For many applications, this means that a traditional Y-arm is no longer sufficient.

The updated sub-arm has been developed to meet these challenges. By adding an extra Y-arm, new opportunities are created to separate operations, optimise cycle times and adapt the robot’s work to specific process requirements.

At its core, this is about giving you greater control over handling, resulting in a more flexible and efficient production setup.

With an additional Y-arm, the robot can, for example:

  • Separate sprue picking from part handling

  • Use a dedicated arm for tooling where required

  • Adapt handling to the specific needs of the application

The solution is currently available for our 8-5 models, with the possibility to adapt it for 16-5. It will soon also be available with two standard arms.

The sub-arm is delivered as standard with a sprue gripper but can also be equipped with a smaller C-axis. The design allows the Y-arms to operate very close to each other, minimising the risk of movement limitations.

This is a well-requested development project that opens up new possibilities in smart automation. A project we are truly excited about.
